New York – Linwood Peel came to the Filipino community here through a concert which Kaye Moran and I organized for the Ambassador’s for Peace campaign of the Universal Peace Federation-Office of Asian Affairs in 2015. The message of peace needed for troubled times went right through our hearts and dancing feet with Linwood and his band’s suave music in that ‘Dance for Peace’ August concert.
Since then, the ever animated and fun-loving community here danced to Linwood’s rendition of The Drifters music, a renowned well-loved doowop band in the 1950s.
His demise on August 28, 2018 is received with great sadness. And I thank him for the beautiful music he shared with his band. I will remember Linwood’s #undertheboardwalk #standbyme and I will #savethelastdance for his music.
Linwood was a doctor by profession, and a native of North Carolina. His early singing voice was honed in the church where his father was a pastor. He eventually became a powerful entertainer in his heydays and regrouped his old The Drifters band with his company the LinRa Productions.
RIP, Linwood, and thank you.
