Finally, the OSM! online magazine celebrated its fourth anniversary on April 22, Friday at the Producers Club on Times Square in a relevant and riotous party. OSM! was officially born on March 18, 2012 in time for women’s month.
Attended by friends and colleagues in the media, our party kicked off with the most timely of conversations on human trafficking led by immigration consultant and dearest friend Susan Pineda. Susan, who came all the way from Virginia, noted that an effective way to help trafficked people out of the shadows was to silently work on their documentation and legal action in order to protect them from possible retaliation of their traffickers who are part of a huge and mighty business syndicate.
Tim Sheard, esteemed media colleague and former chair of the New York National Writers Union encouraged OSM! to increase its coverage of successful cases of human trafficking, based on its mission on positive journalism. Tim runs his own publishing house, the Hardball Press, which focuses on materials on working men and women and their narratives.
So glad to have the NWU president himself, Larry Goldbetter attend the party. He congratulated OSM! and reciprocated an invitation to the May Day rally on May 1.
After the forum, the entire afternoon was spent by guests milling around for new business contacts and friends. Ms. Chelsie Burgos entertained the guests with her songs. While there was endless fun in taking selfie, my friend The FilAm.net editor Cristina DC Pastor, multi-awarded teacher Marietta Geraldino, and accountant Jaena Valles did an acapella of Won’t Last a Day Without You which surprisingly entertained everyone. No one walked out.
Luis Pedron, founder of the International Film Festival Manhattan graced the affair and encouraged guests to contribute films to the 6th IFFM in October this year. Jeanette Marco, executive director of MarcoArt, presented the OSM! meets Ollie the Octopus poster as a thoughtful artistic gesture of an upcoming collaboration. The IFFM and MarcoArt are two of the major partners of OSM! in big events this year.
From her shout out on Facebook, I am most honored to read this super-duper thumbs up from community leader Ms. Juliet Payabyab:
“OSM, the online magazine for awesome global citizens, celebrated its 4th anniversary at the Producers Club in NYC on April 22, Friday. It brings you stories worth reading, has style, eye for detail and imagination. And the lady behind its success works longer than the normal working hours on evenings and weekends. She knows how to produce entertaining and informative publication with accuracy and has the ability to be diplomatic and fair.
So who is this person then? Everyone, meet M&M, not the candy, but Ms. Marivir Montebon of Cebu City and now a resident of Queens. Online publication is the main growth area these days and with her skills, her magazine will be soon an Outstanding Super Magazine (OSM) and Oh My Girl (OMG), you’re good!
Congratulations, Ms MM. Wish you more celebrations to come!”
That day, my heart was overflowing with happiness and gratitude.
