New York – They are the head turners during the June 3 Philippine Parade on Madison Avenue, justifying the modernity of the Filipiniana and Barong Tagalog at its impeccable best. Cultural officer Olive Osias-Magpile, Vice Consul Khrys Corpuz, and Vice Consul Tanya Ramiro are a few of those stunners.
Philippine textiles are definitely one of the world’s finest: premium silk that is handwoven with abaca, pinya, cotton, and other indigenous materials. Carefully done by village artisans in the Philippines and tastefully worn by some of the Philippines’ denizens at the Parade, you will see what I mean with the photos here.

AFTA’s Ave Pimo in fuchsia terno by her favorite designer Cora Manimbo. She perfects her looks with a handwoven abaca purse and comfortable beaded shoes, that’s meant for fashionable walking.

NAFFAA New York top woman Laura Garcia’s rich red ensemble of floral embroidery, also by Cora Manimbo, goes well with that definitive smile of confidence.

Edge Grabador in Julius Tarog’s black cotton Barong Talog with handwoven abaca vest, makes for a cool millennial.

Ms. Eleanor de Leon in royal blue butterfly sleeved mermaid gown by Renee Salud. Unmistakably gorgeous.

Mae Manubay and Marianne Olfindo of the Cultural section of the Philippine Consulate of New York show the modern, functional Filipiniana. Another creation by Renee Salud, making the Filipiniana fashionably relevant.
