New York – The not-for-profit organization Kids Philippines Inc. (KPI) has recently launched its New York Chapter with entertainment organizer Vicente “Vince” Gahon Gesmundo as president. Elected officials include Annalyn “Ann” Constantino Beck as vice president; Dolores “Dolly ” Verdillo Agda as secretary; Treasurer Cecille “Cici” Lai as treasurer; Cecile Duyongco as auditor; Reymar “Ray” Maranan as PRO.
KPI NY was launched at the Philippine Center on May 18, 2018 with founder Ms. Cherry Smyth. Consul Arman Talbo led in the oath-taking ceremony for the officers.
Gesmundo said KPI New York will first work on its 501 (c) 3 status with the New York state while friends have already signified to support the scholarship program for Philippine youth. KPI has chapters in Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island since its inception two years ago.
Meanwhile, eighteen-year-old Alyssa Sidney Cristobal is the 2018 Diwa Ng Kalayaan (Spirit of Independence) who will grace the Philippine Independence Day Parade on June 3, 2018. The Philippine Independence Day Council Inc. (PIDCI) organized the fund-raiser activity.
The daughter of Sgt. Larry Cristobal and Mrs. Gissel Cristobal of North Caldwell, New Jersey, the newly minted Diwa ng Kalayaan is a recent graduate of West Essex High School in North Caldwell. Alyssa will enroll at the George Washington University in the U.S. capital this fall.
First Runner up title Hiyas ng Pilipinas (Jewel of the Philippines) was bagged by Tochi Cantalejo, who is a Certified Healthcare Provider. The title of Bituin ng Luzon (Star of Luzon) was won by Trisha Baltazar, who recently graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
The Bituin ng Visayas (Star of the Visayas) title was garnered by Nica Salcedo, the 18-year-old daughter of Jonnah Perez and Allyson Salcedo. The last title – Bituin ng Mindanao (Star of Mindanao) – was bagged by Khayte Racquel Perez, a recent graduate of Flushing High School.
The Diwa ng Kalayaan Coronation Pageant and Gala Committee was chaired by PIDCI Vice President Chris de Guzman and Matt Reyes, with Co-Chairs Maryann Sanagustin, Jean David, Margie Wisotsky and Kristin Pali-Gaza.
