It’s the season to be creative: Make your own parol – Christmas lantern – for the holidays

New York – It’s that time of year again! The holidays are coming, and what better way to get into the spirit of things than through our annual Pasko Sa Filipino School workshops — but this time we’re going virtual due to the ongoing pandemic.

Come learn about Christmas in the Philippines through story-telling, Christmas songs, and a parol-making workshop (18-inch 3D parols)! You will have an enjoyable time, and will be sure to leave here learning a few Filipino phrases that you can use at home during the holidays and even start a new family holiday tradition!

Pre-registration and pre-payment is required as space and the number of parol kits is limited. Please complete our survey to RSVP here.

Dates:
Saturday, December 4 from 10-11AM EST
Sunday, December 5 from 10-11AM EST

* Last day to register is Wednesday, November 17 to ensure that parol kits arrive on time.

Please make checks payable to: The Filipino School of New York & New Jersey. You can also pay via Google Pay (filschool.nynj@gmail.com) or Venmo (FilSchoolNYNJ). Open to all ages.

Cost: $15/each (shipping not included) for those being mailed outside of Bergen County, NJ. $15/each for those that will be picked up in Bergen County, NJ.

Includes one parol kit that includes 10 unfinished bamboo sticks, 5 short dowels, 4 assorted sheets of wrapping tissue, glue stick, twine, and instruction sheet. Participants must provide their own scissors, cardboard circles, and additional colored tissue paper. Feel free to bring other items to decorate with and a glue gun (if you have one). A video showing how to preassemble the parol frames will be sent to all confirmed registrants prior to their scheduled workshop. (Proceeds to benefit our Children’s Language and Cultural Programs.)

Participants will receive an email confirmation with Zoom meeting link to confirm their spot, and parol kits will be sent once payment is received.
