International Pianist Raul Sunico to Perform in NYC Oct. 21

New York City – In celebration of the Filipino American History month, internationally acclaimed pianist Raul Sunico will hold a piano concert on Saturday, October 21, 730PM at the Merkin Concert Hall, Kaufman Music Center in New York City. This event is made possible by the J&S Productions, in cooperation with the Felipe P. de Leon Foundation and The Lewis College, Philippine Air Lines, The Filipino Channel ABS CBN and Ayalaland.

Sunico will enthrall his audience with the works by Berg, Canseco, De Leon, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Piazolla and Ravel, as he did in major stages in Asia, US and North America and Europe including Japan, China, India, Philippines, Austria, France, Germany, Spain, and Mexico.

He has performed at the Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Hall, Town Hall and numerous concert halls in the United States.  He was featured soloist with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Romania’s Transylvania Philharmonic Orchestra, Poland’s Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra, Taiwan Normal University Wind Orchestra as well as the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Manila Symphony Orchestra, the Manila Chamber Orchestra, University of the Philippines Symphony Orchestra and the University of Santo Tomas Symphony Orchestra.

He has served as president of the Cultural Center of the Philippines from 2010 -2017 and was dean of the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music.

Sunico started his musical career as winner of the Manila Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist Auditions.  He is recipient of a number of prestigious awards including Silver Medal for the Viotti International Piano Competition, Vercelli, Italy, finalist in International Piano Competition in Bolzano, Italy, Henry Cowell Prize in the University of Maryland International Piano Competitions.

A 1986 The Outstanding Young Men Awardee for Arts and Music, he has also received Prudential Award for Overseas Filipinos & Organizations, Manila’s Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangany Award, University of the Philippines Alumni Award, Phi Kappa Phi Diamond Jubilee Award and the 2004 Aliw Award for Best Instrumental Performer.

In the Philippines, he received the TOYM (The Outstanding Young Men) award for Music; Prudential Award for Overseas Filipino & Organizations. (PAMANA); Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinanganÿ Award (City of Manila); UP Alumni Award; Phi Kappa Phi Diamond Jubilee Award; and the 2004 Aliw Award for Best Instrumental Performer.
