New York – “A world without facts is a world without truth and trust,” Maria Ressa said after being named recipient of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize alongside Russian newspaper editor Dmitry Muratov for their work to “safeguard freedom of expression.”
Global news network Democracy Today said Ressa has repeatedly been arrested by the government of Rodrigo Duterte in the Philippines for the groundbreaking work of her news site Rappler, which has exposed Duterte’s deadly war on drugs that has killed tens of thousands.
Ressa’s media colleagues of the Filipino American Press Club in New York whom she visited in 2019 readily sent their felicitations. # (Photos by Troi Santos)
