New York – October being Filipino American History Month, the FIL-AM PRESS CLUB NEW YORK launched on October 1 an essay writing contest with the theme “What it means to be Filipino American.” The deadline to submit entries is midnight of Oct 31, 2018.
The contest is open to all Fil-Ams aged 12-30 whether out of school or in high school or college, studying in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont — the 10 states that are under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Consulate in New York.
Below, the rules:
-The length of the essay is from 500 to 800 words. Send them as word attachment.
-The essays will be evaluated on the basis of readability, coherence, originality, and persuasiveness.
-Send your essays to fapcnyscholar@gmail.com with information about yourself (name, address, headshot, a short bio, and proof of current enrollment).
Winners will be honored at the FAPCNY’s ‘Patikim’ event on November 16 where they will receive cash and other prizes.
