New York City — When Clever Little Lies climaxed to its defining moment of truth, I couldn’t help but laugh and almost fell from my chair, as the comedy unravels to be a disaster-in-waiting in the living room.
Spy mom Alice (Marlo Thomas) and protective dad Bill (Greg Mullaney) are in mad scramble to grab the cellphone away from their son, Bill Jr. (George Merrick). Upset by the incessant phone calls that distracted their family time, they just want to confiscate that noisy little phone. But on the other line is Bill Jr.’s big secret waiting to be busted. It’s a disaster about to erupt, in the presence of Bill Jr.’s wife Jane (Kate Wetherhead). This and many other secrets begin to come out. Oh this cast just made their audience so crazy.
That is just about how I am going to describe this hilarious family comedy playing at Westside Theater on 43rd Street in mid-Manhattan. You just have to watch it.

Emmy, Grammy, and Golden Globe winner Marlo Thomas plays Alice in Clever Little Lies, here with Greg Mullaney as Bill Sr. Playing in Westside Theatre this fall.
Clever Little Lies is written by Joe Dipietro and stars Marlo Thomas, Greg Mullaney, George Merrick, and Kate Wetherhead. Director John Saint did a splendid job, from bringing out the best of his inherently superb actors to the technical brilliance of the show in lighting, costume, music, and modern visual effects on stage.
Produced by Jhett Tolentino and Joan Raffe of the Joan Jhett Productions, it is laughter with reason that evokes reflection.
Erno Hormillosa, a fashion event organizer in New York, lends his thoughts:
“This comedy play is well written and simply hilarious! I was very happy to be a part of the few to preview the play and of course, very honored that Jhett Tolentino invited me personally.
The casting was impeccable and the actors really portrayed their characters flawlessly. Clever Little Lies not only made me laugh for almost two hours but also made me realize that this is reality.
The director did an awesome job. It’s just perfect, not overly done. I highly recommend this comedy play because it is cleverly done and a must see! Bravo!”
