New York – I got an invite to a press conference last week from Grace Labaguis, top lady for Synergy Production and Marketing and GMA consultant, as a prelude to tonight’s Musikalye sa Brooklyn by GMA. And since D’Haven is just in my hood, I could not pass up that event, expecting a surprise since I was going to interview young Filipino pop artists from GMA 7 on Friday, May 10, 2019.
We started with a Filipino dinner of pansit, rice, chicken sarsiado, a sweet sour fish with peppers and green salad. The lechon and the sauce on the side completed the sumptuous meal. My table was composed of the members of the Fil Am Press Club who were busy exchanging notes about the guests.
By 7PM, the Kapamilya stars came in for the press con: Golden Cereno, Rayver Cruz, Julie Ann San Jose, Alden Richards, Christian Bautista, Kylene Alcantara and Betong.

I don’t know much about young stars now, except for Betong, who I’ve seen in one of those Bubble Gang shows on YouTube.
The conversation between the young artists and the media was upbeat. Alden’s answer to my question on how he treats controversies that may damage his reputation or relationships was very well explained. He said that in order for controversies to die down, he ignores them and stays quiet especially when the bashers are out to get him.

Then there was Julie San Jose and Kylene Alcantara whose favorite female artist whom they look up to is Beyonce. Singer Christian Bautista recommends marriage as he talks of his wife with so much love.
Golden Cereno said that she is so excited to be at the Musikalye in Brooklyn Concert as her first time outside the Philippines and in New York, no less. The concert is indeed a life changer for her.
For Betong, long hours on the set makes the life of an artist difficult. His strength comes from his veteran colleagues who endure the rigorous work, he said.
Rayver Cruz gave a sample of his swayed moves as a preview for the show at the King’s Theatre in Brooklyn. All the other artists sang for us as a sampler to the show. And I tell you, they’re all fantastic and the show is a must-see. It starts at 6PM. Tickets range from $80-$115. For ticket inquiries, visit www.ticketmaster.com or call 800.745.3000.
