WICCAFE: American natives live more equitable lives before Dutch, English colonizers

The American Immigration Story Part 1. The Natives of North America

Before the Dutch and English colonizers came to what is now known as the East Coast of the US (particularly the old colonies of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island), the native tribes who existed for over 24,000 years lived a full civilization of equitability and reverence to each other and nature. Before colonialization that promoted patriarchal culture, native societies were known to be matrilineal. Listen to the full video of Part 1 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8V3bs7KZsU&t=2s

The oldest woman in the long house was the most influential and revered member of the clan.

Marivir Montebon, researcher and presenter of the American Immigration Story.

This is a presentation of the Women’s Immigration and Communications Cafe, a nonprofit organization organized by Marivir R. Montebon in completion of her MA in Religious Studies in 2019 at the Unification Theological Seminary in Manhattan.
