New York – The COVID 19 crisis has had enormous impact on our world and has given rise to a wide range of political, economic, and social challenges. Despite the hardships that the pandemic has brought, First Ladies have shown effective and nurturing leadership with empathy and compassion. In partnership with their husbands, they have rallied their country to come together to bring hope to their people and minimize its devastating impact.
On July 9, 2020 at 3:00 PM (Bangkok time) the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) of Asia Pacific will host its first virtual Summit. This will be in collaboration with the International Association of First Ladies for Peace (IAFLP) jointly with International Summit Council for Peace (ISCP) with the theme, “Rebuilding and Renewing our Nations in the Post Covid-19 World: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values.”
Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, co-founder of UPF and WFWP, highlighted the crucial role of women leaders in this moment in history, saying, “Women are called to play a central role by serving alongside with men like the wheels of a great engine pulling the construction of a peaceful world. We accept this important role to become the turning point in building a new century characterized by a loving, peaceful culture.” In this high-level session, the First Ladies of Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Fiji, Nepal, and Northern Marianas Islands, will offer their wisdom and insights on best practices that are bringing hope in the midst of our global pandemic.
ISCP is a project of UPF which provides a forum for current and former Heads of States and Government to deliberate ways to overcome the challenges we face in the 21st century, including pandemics, climate change, conflict and poverty. In conjunction with this, IAFLP affirms and uplifts the unique and essential role of First Ladies in contributing to peace and development. Working in collaboration with the Women’s Federation for World Peace it brings together women leaders from throughout the world, drawing upon their experience and wisdom as role models who serve their countries and societies in very essential and significant ways.
UPF is an NGO in General Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations
