New York City – Here is a very personal invitation to the Filipino community of the East Coast on the last day of June 2017. My, oh my, how time flies. It is the middle of the year, and what a lovely way to spend the sunny days by investing in yourself through writing.
Together with my good friend and colleague in the profession Cristina DC Pastor, publisher of The FilAm magazine and Makilala TV, we will hold a ‘Community Writing Training’ which is three-hour workshop on June 30 where we will discuss and provide coaching on how to craft stories across different media platforms.
We will hold this at the 4w 43rd Street, NY, NY 10036 at the Oak Room of the UTS on the second floor, from 5:30-8:30 PM. There is a $50 fee but special rates will apply to students or groups. We will serve refreshments and provide a useful kit.
We would like to help students, professionals and community organizations develop their skills to write press releases that will get the attention of editors. This is also a venue for training and conversation for a better understanding of the community’s media culture.
It will be fun and substantive as participants will participate in mock news reporting, a pretend press conference, and the actual writing of news.
Ms. Pastor will handle topics on interviewing and writing a press release while I will tackle reporting (spot news vs features; blogging vs reporting) and pitching a story to an editor.
Hope to see you soon. Please contact email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org for inquiries.
